OUR HISTORY

It is the memory of Nelson and Sarah Jane Rice that we, the descendants, gather to honor their memory in celebration and to pay tribute to the bonds of family unity.  The Rice family continues to grow and is a cohesive group from diverse backgrounds with a wealth of love to share.

Nelson Rice and Sarah ("Sallie" or Sadie") Jane Mitchell were married in January 1888 and were the parents of John Henry (died in infancy): William (died in infancy); Essie Gaybertha (Sis); Nelson George (Brother): Christine Tamar (Tama); James Golden (Goldie): Fletcher Moses (Big Man): Sallie Jane; Regina Olivia (Tina): Ollie Ethel (Pet); Wade; Monnie Mitchell (Mon); Simmie (died in infancy): Mamie Sue Catherine (Baby); and Luther (born soon after his father's death and died in infancy).

BE A PART OF OUR HISTORY

Our Story

For more than forty‑five years, family and friends have upheld our enduring tradition of gathering annually—a testament to resilience, continuity, and the ties that have carried our story across generations. This year’s reunion in Chicago stands as both a celebration and a remembrance, echoing decades of shared history, ancestral pride, and the steady thread of kinship that binds us together through changing times. In addition to reconnecting and honoring our shared legacy, the Rice family and friends will also join together in a community service project for the city, extending our longstanding values of unity and stewardship beyond our own circle. As we return once again to share stories and strengthen bonds, our reunion becomes not only a tribute to our past but a meaningful contribution to the community that hosts them.

This year we will also host a special seminar:
